Traffic Wales required a website that would instantly communicate accurate and up to the minute traffic information to the user.

Traffic Wales manages and looks after all the roads across Wales. Although the organisation was successfully communicating with the public through offline methods, their online presence was failing. They needed a powerful website that would deliver traffic information immediately into the hands of those that it might impact.

To begin the project we carried out in-depth analysis on their former website. We quickly identified that the main problem with this site was that to find out various items of traffic information, you would have to click onto different areas of the site. We decided that all the traffic information should be incorporated into one single interface.

On paper this seemed like a simple idea, however it was quite a challenging task as we had to incorporate a vast amount into the single application but yet still make it user-friendly. Nevertheless within a few days our developers overcame the challenges and created a landmark application.

The end result was that we built a unique mapping system which enables users to quickly obtain all the traffic information they require in just one action! By zooming into the map you can view live CCTV camera images on all the major roads and motorways in Wales and you can see up to the minute information on incidents, roadworks and congestion levels.

The application also enables users to receive information relevant to them. You are able to define a journey consisting of roads that you need to use and then you can opt to be notified by RSS feed, SMS text or email when the journey is affected in anyway.
