Search Engine Optimisation Advice - Cardiff Wales

As our Search Engine team will verify, great rankings on Google, AOL or MSN do not have to cost the earth. Our Content Management System is inherently visible to Search Engines however for those clients who have inherited another website or CMS, the following advice will help to increase your overall visibility to the major search engines.

The following will point you in the right direction however the offer to speak to our team is always open!

  • Domains and Visibility – One of the best ways to ensure that your site achieves high rankings on the major Search Engines is to ensure that your domain is 'relevant'. As far as search engines are concerned, relevancy is measured on a variety of factors - however the main factors are consistently relevant content in the domain, header, meta content and body content.

  • Keyword Analysis– Just typing in your main keywords over and over again will not result in great Search Engine rankings. By focusing on niches in your market or through careful geographical targeting, results will be produced much more efficiently and effectively.
  • Strong Content – Content is truly the most important aspect of Search Engine Optimisation or Search Engine Visibility. Content does not just have to focus on body content but on images, urls, folder and pages. It is the quality of the content that is key. Search Engines use complex algorithms to monitor the 'density' of search term content - i.e. how many times does the phrase appear on the page as a function to how many words there are on the page as a whole.
  • Watching Search Engine Trends - there are a number of free tools provided by the major Search Engines which can give you an indication as to the 'global' use of terms. As an example, Google Trends (please click here to see Google Trends) provides non-quantitative information on how the world's search terms vary over time. All you need to do is enter a series of topics and see how often they've been searched for on Google over a given period. Google Search Engine Optimisation Trends also displays how frequently your topics have appeared in Google News stories and for some terms, which geographic regions have searched for them most often.
  • Links - Should you be lucky enough to be linked to by the BBC, your search engine rankings will see an immediate positive change! All of the major search engines rate overall link popularity extremely highly along with the quality of these links - links from associated websites which are similar ( in terms of relevancy) or content are of higher value than getting a high volume of links from irrelevant websites.
  • Coding Practices – As we've found from working with our clients such as the RNIB and Cardiff Institute for the Blind, if your site is accessible (as outlined by the W3C), your site is likely to visible to visually impaired users as well as search engines. Search Engines can be considered to be the biggest accessibility focused audience and through the use of best practice coding practices such as XHTML and CSS along with strong relevant content, your site can achieve great rankings without paying per click!
