At Sequence many of us have been fans of Doctor Who since we were kids so we couldn’t believe it when they appointed us to create their online games and websites.

In April 2006 the second series of the re-vamped Doctor Who series phenomenon premiered on our television screens. To support the launch of the new series the BBC wanted to take online gaming experience to a new level. We were commissioned to produce a suite of online games that would enable fans to explore the Doctor’s universe and even help him save it.

Following the success of the games that supported the first series, including over one million plays of ‘The Last Dalek’ game, the BBC wanted the games for the second series to really challenge viewers and give them round-the-clock access to the Doctor’s world. We all agreed that each game would be linked to an episode of the new series with gameplay to mirror the story and extend its lifespan.

To begin the creative process we read through episode scripts searching for loose ends in the plots. Even through the scripts were tightly written we found avenues in the scripts that would enable to produce dramatic gameplay. We presented each idea to the BBC producers as an initial game proposal. On approval, we developed the idea into a final game specification: a document that described exactly how the game would look, feel and function.

Our work with the BBC Doctor Who team proves our commitment to high-concept online gaming. We’ve shown that we can produce a superb gaming model and take it seamlessly from development through to launch.
