Colin Smith, the winner of the BBC Blast competition ‘Design a Doctor Who Game’, has now had his own game Doctor In A Dash, developed and launched by Sequence, Wales’ largest digital agency.

The competition, which was launched in the summer by BBC Blast, the BBC’s learning creative service for 13-19 year olds, called on young aspiring creators to send in game ideas centred on a Doctor Who theme. In a very close-run contest, five finalists presented their ideas to an expert panel of BBC producers and game creators including Sequence’s Creative Director, Mark Johnson and Sequence’s BBC Account Director, Richard Shearman.

Mark Johnson said: "It was an absolute delight to judge this competition. We invited all five finalists to a masterclass on the Doctor Who set where we discussed their game ideas. At the end of the day we had to pick one winner and this was an extremely difficult task to do as all the entries were of such a high standard."

Colin Smith, 13, was announced as the winner of the competition with his game, Doctor In A Dash. The thrilling game tests players driving skills as they race the TARDIS against the Daleks, Judoon and Slitheen to retrieve a dangerous Space-Time Manipulator. Following his triumphant win, Colin and his parents were then invited to the Sequence office to develop the game.

Working with Sequence’s highly skilled design team, Colin’s ideas on paper were transformed into an online interactive experience. Speaking about the game development, Colin said: "The day at Sequence, the company who are making the game, was a brilliant experience. It was great to see my game actually there, on a computer screen, and although a few minor changes had to be made to the game, I thought they had been for the best."
