Leading digital communications agency, Sequence, has been working in partnership with the BBC on a fictional website for the new sci-fi thriller, Torchwood. The commission saw the design and build of a website (www.torchwood.org.uk) – an extensive virtual world designed to simulate remote access to Torchwood’s computer systems.

The new series which premiered on Sunday 22nd October on BBC Three follows Captain Jack Harkness and his crack team as they use alien technology to solve crime: both alien and human.

Sequence developed a futuristic interface that provides a highly interactive experience of what it might be like to access the Torchwood Extranet - a secure ‘organic’ internal data repository used by Captain Jack Harkness and his team throughout their adventures in the series. The result - an opportunity for Torchwood fans to immerse themselves yet further in to the world of Torchwood.

The site provides viewers the opportunity to take a deeper look into the stories, characters and alien technology that feature in the show, and is intended to extend the narrative by engaging audiences long past the shows’ transmission.

Mark Johnson, Sequence Creative Director comments "Torchwood is bang up to date, stylish sci-fi with a raw feel. We were tasked in bringing a key piece of the shows’ technology to life."

Following on from the popular tie-in websites and games created by Sequence for Doctor Who, Sequence were delighted to work once again work with the BBC team to create an online interactive experience for Torchwood fans.

Mark continues "We were tasked with making the interface featured in the series become reality and create an experience that would enable the audience to become even more involved with the show by exploring the ‘secret’ content. To achieve this we had to create a navigation system that also had lots of the attributes we commonly associate with our own computers – the goal was to make something fluid and seamless but which also had windows and traditional content in the form of text docs, photography and video."

Chris Haresign, Business Development Director comments "It has been privilege to work with the BBC again. The whole creative process has been fantastic and initial feedback from fans of the show has been enormously warm and positive. We plan to continue enhancing the site throughout the Torchwood transmission schedule."

Torchwood is shown on BBC Three at 10pm every Sunday evening and is repeated on BBC Two every Wednesday at 9pm.
