Online Collection Developed by Sequence is Launched at National Festival

People's Collection

A unique online collection charting the rich history of Welsh people, designed and developed by Sequence, was launched at the National Eisteddfod of Wales in Ebbw Vale last week.

The People's Collection Wales/Casgliad y Werin Cymru represents an important Welsh Assembly Government One Wales commitment to develop an innovative approach to collect, interpret, distribute and discuss Wales' cultural heritage in an online environment.

It collects together photographs, documents, audio files and films, bringing to life the stories of the people of Wales, its communities and famous events in the nation's history, all aimed at developing cultural tourism, creating an important learning tool and enhancing cultural life.

Tens of thousands of key items for the People's Collection Wales will come from the Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales, the National Library of Wales and the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historic Monuments of Wales, and these will be augmented by content from individuals, local history groups and schools

The launch of the collection is the culmination of 12 months' work for Sequence.

The Assembly Government's Minister for Heritage, Alun Ffred Jones, said: “This website truly encapsulates the social history of Wales that is written by its people and helps widen the understanding of our cultural heritage.”

Rheinallt Jones, People's Collection Wales programme manager, added.

“Selecting the right agency to deliver this project was crucial.   Sequence demonstrated enthusiasm, innovation and experience, and have created an outstanding platform for cultural heritage tourism.”
