With the race for graduate jobs intensifying those leaving higher education need more help than ever in getting started on the career ladder.
Ollie Wells, Client Side Design Team Manager for Sequence has been invited to share his experiences of employment at the Design Wales Forum event Help I’m a Graduating Designer … What Do I Do Next? to be held at the Wales Millennium Centre on the evening of July 20.
A panel of designers from different disciplines has been invited to share their experiences of what happened to them after they graduated.
This chat show style event includes the opportunity for attendees to ask questions of the panel.
According to recent research, more than twice as many graduates compete for every available job compared with the early 1980s, and lengthy unpaid internships are on the increase.
Speaking about the event, Ollie said: “Once all the hard work of getting a degree is over, finding a suitable job can be difficult, so some guidance from someone who has been there recently is very helpful.”
Ollie, who has a degree in product design from the University of Glamorgan, feels that building up a broad range of experience makes for a more attractive and flexible potential employee.
His career history has given him a wide scope of experience in online services; roles include technical designer at the BBC; a year in Vancouver as a technical web designer for Lightmaker; and web designer for interactive agency, Complete Control - the Bath-based enterprise responsible for the Mr. Bean and Nickelodeon websites.
