We have worked in partnership with Chapter, an arts organisation based in Cardiff since 1997. In 2005 we re-designed their site to reflect their contemporary style and their growing importance in the international arts sector.

Chapter offers an excellent and ever changing programme of theatre, film and exhibition from Wales and around the world. In recent years the organisation has developed an international reputation for excellence, innovation and collaboration and we wanted to inject their renewed confidence and contemporary thinking into the design of their website.

As with all projects, we met with the Chapter team to discuss potential ideas. They communicated verbally to us a few rough ideas which we then translated into a range of concepts from which they could then choose. We also analysed Chapter’s other marketing materials as it was important that the new designs could be carried across all their offline literature.

For the re-design we decided to use an extensive colour palette. We used a different colour for each section of the site to help users understand the different areas of the arts that Chapter support and cater for. We set Chapter’s recognisable logo against a dark brick red colour scheme to reflect the materials used in their building.

The end result is that the design of the site successfully reflects its organisational values and attitudes. Members and users of Chapter now use the website more than any other medium to find out information and thanks to the designs of the site users are able to capture the spirit of this international organisation.
