Sequence launches new Course Finding Tool for Top University

Cardiff based Interactive Agency Sequence has developed an exciting tool to allow current and prospective students to search online for their ideal course at Cardiff University.
Coursefinder allows the users to enter keywords to search for a relevant course, pulling up results in 'rank order', depending on how relevant the keyword is to the course title or text body. The majority of other top UK university websites require a search in a more structured format i.e. course subject, course type (post grad, under grad, HND, etc) which doesn’t allow the flexibility for the students’ search that Coursefinder does.
Phil Murphy, Systems Development Director at Sequence commented on Coursefinder, "Constructing Coursefinder was quite a task. There are over 500 subjects in over 50 different subject areas on the database, plus each course may be associated with more than one subject area, some of which were aliases. We managed to migrate all the content from the previous JSP and Oracle to .NET and SQL, which allowed us to complete the task in a significantly reduced timescale."
Sequence has worked with Cardiff University in the past and produced a very successful website for its merger with University Wales College of Medicine in 2004.
Martyn Kelly, Web Services Manager at Cardiff University, said, "Coursefinder will be of huge use to prospective students at the university. Students are able to enter keywords in the search function that relate to their preferred field of study, which will bring up a number of results relating to that keyword and give them all the details relating to that topic."
